Abstract

This study explores the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing foreign language learning, addressing a significant knowledge gap concerning its application within Central Asian educational contexts, particularly in Uzbekistan. Employing a mixed-methods design, the research involved 120 undergraduate students divided equally into an AI-assisted experimental group and a traditionally taught control group. Pre- and post-tests using the Oxford Placement Test were complemented by interviews and observational data. Results revealed a substantial improvement in the AI group’s language proficiency, with an average 20-point gain compared to 7 points in the control group. These findings suggest that AI tools effectively support language acquisition by providing adaptive, personalized instruction. However, limitations related to emotional nuance and contextual understanding highlight the need for hybrid human-AI teaching models. The study has practical implications for curriculum design and offers a foundation for future longitudinal and culturally sensitive AI-in-education research.
